Travel Insurance: For Travel Peace of Mind!
As a travel agent, it is my obligation to offer you the opportunity to secure your travel arrangements with the purchase of travel insurance. I specialize in policies from the leading travel insurer, Travel Guard, a member of the AIG group of insurance companies.
What does travel insurance cover? Coverages fall into three broad categories:
Trip cancellation. If you need to cancel for a covered cause (typically medical) and you're not able to get a refund of the money paid to your travel supplier.
Trip interruption. The most typical instance is a medical emergency that puts you in a hospital and forces you to return at a later date.
Lost baggage and personal effects. Typically subject to deductibles, you are reimbursed for the fair market value of the items you've lost.
How much will it cost? The premium is a function of (1) the trip cost if that's being insured, (2) the amount of coverage for medical expenses and personal effects, (3) any special activity considerations, (4) the age of the insured and (5) the duration of the trip. The premium to cover a 25 year old on a $1500 trip will be quite a bit less than for an 85 year old on a $5000 adventure.
Insure when you deposit your trip. After you've paid for your trip deposit, you want to pay for your insurance. Why? In most cases, early booking of insurance will give you increased coverage such as protection from supplier default and an important waiver from most pre-existing condition exclusions. You must buy the insurance within 14 days of your trip deposit to get this extra coverage.
